Success Story: Nine top rankers from Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu
The backward Dharmapuri district has thrown up nine state toppers in the SSLC results released on Friday as western Tamil Nadu stole the show yet again in the public examinations.
Once notorious for female infanticide, the Dharmapuri district, has turned into a key educational hub in western Tamil Nadu, with nine girls from three schools scoring 499 out of 500 marks.
The success story in all the three schools was just similar to the Namakkal model: special classes, revision tests and starting and completion of class 10 portions much in advance. “I plan to study MBBS after my plus-2 to become a cardiologist,” said R. Akshaya of Sree Vijaya Vidayalaya girl’s matric and higher secondary, who shared the top honours with eight other students in Dharmapuri.
Her classmates P. Meivizhi and S.E. Santhuya, who also emerged the state toppers, plans to pursue civil services and become IAS officers after their graduation in engineering and medicine respectively.
“We used to conduct unit test, especially for every lesson, regularly for students. In addition, training was imparted for SSLC after class 9 summer vacations to achieve good marks in the exam,” said Kousalya, principal of Sree Vijaya Vidayalaya girl’s matric and higher secondary.
A. Deepthi, G. Kiruthika and P.K. Revathi Aparna of Sri Vijaya Vidayalaya matric and higher secondary school and A. Deepthi and R. Kayalvizhi of Senthil matric higher secondary school in Dharmapuri have also shared the top rank in the state, said K.P. Maheshwari, Dharmapuri chief education officer.
Besides, 25 students have scored 497 marks and secured the state third rank. Moreover, R.Rahul of government higher secondary school got 494 marks for the district rank and in addition another 33 government schools secured 100 per cent results this year.
In pass percentage Dharmapuri showed an improvement of 91.66 per cent which is six per cent more compared to the previous year. Like previous year, the girls have outnumbered the boys in the pass percentage. The girls got 92.28 per cent against boys who recorded 91.13 in pass percentage.
Maheshwari termed the success as the team spirit, periodical review and support from the teachers and parents of the students. In Krishangiri, S. Kavyah of Sree Vijaya Vidyalaya matric higher secondary school secured 499 marks to become state topper like her Dharmapuri counterparts.
Nine others secured state second rank and another 25 students got state third rank. Three including two girls of government schools scored 494 marks for the district rank. 80 government schools recorded 100 per cent result in the pass percentage. As many as 26,209 of 27,710 people who appeared for the exams have passed. The Krishnagiri district too showed an improvement in the pass percentage 94.58 which is 5.96 per cent compared last year.
As usual, the girls outnumbered the boys in the pass percentage. The girls recorded 95.90 pass per centage while only 93.3 per cent of the boys passed. In the overall pass percentage across Tamil Nadu, Krishnagiri district jumped to the sixth place from 20th place in 2013. Neighbouring Dharmapuri secured 19th place as against the 25th place in the previous year.
