Afghan president Hamid karzai calls Modi, says indian envoys secure
New Delhi: Giving a glimpse of the proactive foreign policy approach he may follow, Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi called up the Indian envoy in Afghanistan following the terror attack on the consulate in Herat and said he was closely monitoring the situation.
Mr Modi also received a phone call from Afghan President Hamid Karzai, who assured him that everything will be done to protect Indian missions in his country.
Outgoing PM Manmohan Singh also spoke to Mr Karzai, who told him that such incidents will only help strengthen the collective resolve of the two countries to fight terror.
Meanwhile, President Pranab Mukherjee, Dr Singh, Vice President Hamid Ansari, BJP chief Rajnath Singh and other top leaders strongly condemned the terror attack.
The President said that such attacks will not deter India from assisting Afghanistan in its effort to reconstruct and develop the nation.
