‘Running is the best bet’, Namrata Joshipura

Everyday two hour running with a yoga session are beneficial to health

Hyderabad: For me fitness comes naturally as I have always been a sporty person. In my college days I used to play hockey at the state level for Delhi and I was the left-winger. So I trained a lot on running which is a form of meditation and passion for me.

Last year I had hired a professional trainer, Dr Rajat Chauhan who is an ultra-marathon coach and it did help me improve my fitness and tenacity a lot under his guidance. Now every morning, I run for two hours in the Lodhi garden and then follow it up with a yoga session, especially pranayam and surya namaskar which are extremely beneficial to health.

I don’t have a fixed fitness regime, but I like doing a lot of outdoor activities. At least twice a year, I try go for a tough trek where I can walk for eight-nine hours non-stop. Well, it rejuvenates my mind and body.

Gym is my least favourite way to workout, but I do muscle-strengthening exercises when am not running. This December, I want to give my best shot at Delhi-marathon. So keeping the target in mind, right now I’m training on distance, timing and stamina building. However, my best recommendation for staying fit is to run. It always keeps you physically and mentally agile.
