Tarun Gogoi in Delhi to resign as CM of Assam after poll debacle
New Delhi: Even as Himachal Pradesh CM Virbhadra Singh on Wednesday asked why should he resign saying that the mandate of people was not against his government, his Assam counterpart Tarun Gogoi seems to be determined to quit on the moral grounds. He will be meeting the Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Thursday to submit his resignation .
If Mrs Gandhi accepts Gogoi’s resignation then Virbhadra Singh, Prathviraj Chavan, Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Harish Rawat, the CMs of Maharashtra, Haryana and Uttrakhand too would have to resign.
But the reports suggest that none of these CMs are willing to quit on moral grounds. The Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, who was in Delhi on Tuesday, felt that the Congress has no time left for a change of guard in Maharashtra as the state polls could be held in October. But politically Mr Chavan's continuation would ensure a victory of the BJP -Shiv Sena alliance.
