HSNPs find few takers
Hyderabad: The controversial High Security Number Plate scheme, that is being implemented in all the 23 districts, is moving at an extremely sluggish pace. Since the scheme was launched, about 35,000 HSNPs have been affixed throughout the state, said the officials.
However, the number of new vehicles registered during the same period is more than a lakh. Transport officials said the project is moving at a slow pace due to the simultaneous bifurcation process.
The HSNP project was started last year in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy, and then it was expanded to all the 23 districts. Most people obtaining mandatory authorisation after registering their vehicle are still opting for normal number plates.
The project has also beenhit by several technical glitches in the recent past.
“There have been many problems like issues with the server which stopped implementation for some time. It is moving at a very slow pace right now,” a senior transport official said.
The consortium implementing the project will also have to change its dye due to the bifurcation of the state. New number plates in Telangana will have TG as the state code.
Most people are also waiting for the bifurcation process to end to affix the new plates lest they have to do it twice.
