Mumbai: From being the quintessential Casanova of the ’90s to redefining action in Hindi films to becoming the first successful actor-turned-producer of his generation, Akshay Kumar’s growth in the industry has been for all to see. And success hasn’t gone to his head.
“I don’t want to call myself a trendsetter. From Mr Amitabh Bachchan to Sunny Deol, actors across generations have been associated with action. I had my own style of action since I was trained in martial arts. That worked and hopefully will continue to do so,” he says.
Speaking of the young talent in Bollywood, Akshay adds, “They are so focused and dedicated. They’ll go a long way. It makes me feel good that the youth looks up to me,” he smiles.
Akshay confesses that he has always worked on instinct. “Like everyone, I like to work with people I have a good rapport with, and faith in. Vipul Shah and I have done many films. I know that every time he offers me a film it’ll be one of a kind. And I do not interfere in creative decisions. Even as a producer, I allow my director to take creative decisions.
