Indore SEZ exports up 51 per cent at Rs 2,909 crore
Indore: Exports from the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) here registered an increase of nearly 51 per cent in 2013-14 to Rs 2,909 crore. In 2012-13, the value of outbound shipments from the multi-product economic conclave stood at Rs 1,927 crore.
"Despite a global economic slowdown, there was a rise in demand from international importers for medicines and packaging material manufactured at the SEZ units," Indore SEZ Development Commissioner A K Rathore said.
The total business generated in the SEZ in 2013-14 stood at Rs 4,211 crore as against Rs 2,925 crore in the previous financial year. The SEZ, spread across 1,113 hectares, at present has 46 units in different sectors, including engineering, pharma, IT, garments and food processing, he said, adding that four additional facilities are currently under construction.
A sum of Rs 3,719 crore has been invested till now in the tax-free trade zone, which has provided employment to 16,000 people, Rathore added.
