Congress chiefs vow to rebuild party in both states of Telangana and AP
Hyderabad: The Telangana and Seemandhra Congress leaders on Tuesday expressed confidence in the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and pledged to rebuilt the party from the grass-root level.
The Telangana Congress leaders held a meeting at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday and passed a resolution in support of Mrs Sonia Gandhi and Mr Rahul Gandhi’s leadership. After the meeting, former deputy chief minister Damodar Raja Narasimha said all the Congress leaders would be held responsible for the party’s defeat in Telangana in the recent general elections.
Speaking to the media, PCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah said they would hold district-level review meetings on the recent election results over the coming Saturday and Sunday and an extended PCC meet over two days in the last week of June. The Telangana Congress leaders said they would work for strengthening the party.
Meanwhile in the meeting, there was some trouble when a few leaders demanded to discuss the debacle of the party and resignation of senior leaders.
APCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy, speaking at Indira Bhavan, said they would not feel let down in politics despite the poll debacle and being soldiers of the party, they would rebuild the Congress.
He said that despite being aware of defeat, they had entered the fray, but they were not like J.C. Diwakar Reddy who had switched to the TD and was elected as MP.
He suggested to chief minister designate and TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu to keep his poll promises, particularly about waiving farmers’ loans.
The APCC leaders too decided to review the poll debacle in Seemandhra and take steps to strengthen the party.
