Chandrababu Naidu to meet Modi on cabinet formation
Hyderabad: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu is expected to meet prime minister designate Narendra Modi again in a couple of days to discuss the Cabinet formation.
He will also most probably handover the list of names for inclusion in the Union Cabinet that will be announced after May 26.
According to sources close to Mr Naidu, during initial discussions with Mr Modi on Tuesday, two Cabinet and three Ministers of State posts were offered to TD.
Presently there are 16 Lok Sabha members and six Rajya Sabha members from the party representing both Telangana and Seemandhra states.
It is learnt that Mr Naidu, while keeping in view the state Cabinet formation and the permutations and combination of various regions and castes, is treading cautiously while selecting five out of the 22 MPs for recommending for inclusion in the Union Cabinet.
Mr P. Asok Gajapathi Raju from Vizianagaram, though a first time elect to the Lok Sabha, is all set to make it to a Union Cabinet post due to his vast legislative experience since 1978 as legislator and minister in the state Cabinet. Moreover he is considered to be a close confidant of Mr Naidu.
There are several other names doing the rounds like Dr N. Siva Prasad (senior MP from Chittoor-SC), Mr N. Kishtappa (senior MP from Hindpur-BC), Mr K. Rammohan Naidu (first time elect from Srikakulam-BC), Mr Maganti Babu (senior MP from Eluru-Kamma), Mr Rayapati Sambasiva Rao (senior MP from Guntur-Kamma) and Mr Konakalla Narayana Rao (senior MP from Machilipatnam-BC).
There are only two MPs from Kapu community and one MP from the Reddy community — all three are newcomers to the TD. It is learnt Mr Naidu may fulfill his promise of making a Kapu deputy chief minister and thus may not consider anyone from the same community for a Union Cabinet berth.
Mr Naidu is likely to make changes in his preferences under the TD quota.
The list currently has the following names:
