Live: Narendra Modi to resign as Gujarat Chief Minister today, MLAs to meet at 4 pm
Ahmedabad: A day after being appointed as the Prime Minister of India, BJP strongman will submit his resignation as Gujarat chief minister to the Governor at 4 pm on Wednesday.
Modi is also scheduled to attend special session of state Assembly where he will be accorded a farewell by the members.
Modi has been the CM of Gujarat since October 7, 2001.
Gujarat’s state revenue minister Anandiben Patel has emerged the consensus candidate to succeed him.
The BJP MLAs will formally elect Ms Patel as their leader in the presence of BJP general secretary Thawarchand Gehlot, who has been appointed as the observer to monitor the entire process by the party high command.
Ms Patel’s name has been finalised for the post of the Chief Minister considering her seniority in the state Cabinet.
