TRS leader Ramulu killers held in Kerala

Accused say murder weapon was given by Nayeem

Thiruvananthapuram/ Hyderabad: The Thiruvananthapuram police on Tuesday arrested six men, including a former Janashakti cadre, for their involvement in the murder of former Maoist and TRS leader K. Ramulu.

The six accused have confessed to the Kerala police that they had killed Ramulu at the instance of renegade Naxal leader Nayeemuddin, alias Nayeem. A team of Nalgonda police left for Kerala to take the accused into custody. Ramulu was shot dead on May 11 in Nalgonda.

One of the arrested, identified as Chilukaraju Suresh, 44, is also a key accused in the murder case of Ramulu’s brother and former chief of CPI-Maoist K. Sambasivudu. He was out on bail in the Sambasivudu case.

Nalgonda SP T. Prabhakar said, “We have sent our team to Kerala. Apart from Chilukaraju Suresh, the other accused is Somaiah, of Warangal.” The four other accused apprehended have been identified as Yellesh, Ramesh, Ravi and Kumaraswamy.

Thiruvananthapuram police commissioner H. Venkatesh said, “The suspects confessed to killing Ramulu. They escaped from Nalgonda after killing Ramulu and were staying in a lodge here. The accused said Nayeem had handed them the weapons used for the killing.”

They were picked up from one Thampaoor lodge. Police seized a country-made pistol, two bullets and Rs 1.5 lakh from them.

After the murder, the accused left for Renigunta in Tirupati and from there they boarded the Mumbai CST-Trivandrum Express to Thiruvananthapuram. Four more accused are absconding and are suspected to be hiding in AP.
