Tips to avoid harmful online virus
Avoid clicking on any unfamiliar website pop-up
Mumbai: While you are browsing through several websites, it so happens that unwanted pop-ups appear on the screen. While some pop-ups might be useful and important, others can just be an attempt to mislead you into revealing sensitive personal or financial information, paying for fake anti-virus software, or even installing malware and viruses onto your device.
In order to avoid such viruses, you can follow these simple steps listed below:
- Protect your wireless router with a password.
- Install a secure version of anti-virus software and make sure you update it from time to time.
- Keep your firewall turned on.
- Don't put an unknown flash (or thumb) drive into your computer. If it has a virus, it could infect your computer.
- Avoid clicking on an unfamiliar website pop-up by an unfamiliar source. If you click on any such pop-ups, don’t feed in any personal information.
- Before you open an attachment or click a link in an email message, an instant message (IM), or on a social network, confirm with the sender that the message is legitimate.
- Use social networks more safely: Look for Settings or Options in services like Facebook and Twitter to manage who can see your profile or photos tagged with your name, control how people can search for you and make comments, and how to block people.
