KCR for policy decisions be left to Telangana, AP governments
Hyderabad: TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday reportedly asked Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan for M. Gopal Reddy to be posted to Telangana. Mr Gopal Reddy is joint secretary in the Union home ministry.
P. Rajasekhar Reddy, who is presently with the Union labour ministry as Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, Hyderabad, is another bureaucrat that Mr Rao wants in Telangana. A letter has already been sent to the Centre in this regard.
Mr Rajasekhar Reddy reportedly worked with Mr Rao when he was the Union labour minister in the UPA-I government.
Mr Rao had a surprise 20-minute one-on-one meeting with the Governor, which raised eyebrows. According to sources they discussed bifurcation issues. Mr Rao objected to the extension of the common admission procedure and the continuation of various quotas in higher educational institutions for 10 years from June 2.
The TRS chief has been demanding distribution of government employees based on nativity to ensure jobs to locals. He also wants the date appointed for the formation of the new State to be brought forward so that a government can be in place quickly. And he wants major policy decisions to be left to the governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
While the TRS chief is lobbying to bring back to Telangana some of the best officers dispersed across the country, there is a clamour from others to join the Telangana cadre. For example Ms Chandana Khan, special chief secretary, tourism and archaeology, is eying the chief secretary’s post.
Senior IPS officer Aruna Bahuguna and Cyberabad police commissioner C.V. Anand met Mr Rao and greeted him on his party’s victory in Telangana.
A 1986 batch IAS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, Mr Narsing Rao took over as chairman, Coal India Limited, the largest coal producing company in the world, on April 24, 2012. Earlier, he was chairman of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL).
A post-graduate in chemistry and economics from Medak district, Mr Rao as CMD of SCCL oversaw a rise in output from 36 million tonnes in 2006 to 53 MT in 2011-12 and ensured a strike-free period in 2007-2008.
