Cabs to go off the street from today in Telangana
Hyderabad: Telangana Cab Owners’ and Drivers’ Association has called a strike from May 20 midnight demanding a fare hike.
The association, which supplies cabs to all major IT companies in the IT hub, has demanded that the rates to be doubled from Rs 6 per kilometre to Rs 12. It also wants the sub-vendor system to be eliminated. Placing their demands, the association had served a notice in February, this year.
“Due to price-rise of all essential commodities, we are demanding the hike. Diesel rates have gone up and vehicle parts have also become costlier.
With the current fare rate, the drivers are not being able to feed their families. Many cab drivers committed suicide in the past,” said T. Santosh Reddy, president of the association adding, “As we did not receive any response to our notice served in February, we have finally decided to go on a strike.”
