Now enjoy a geometry of colours in your wardrobe!

You can now pick up fabrics with prints that showcase triangles, circles, grids and more
Bangalore: It’s flashback to geometry class with this season’s print craze. From grids, triangles and concentric circles to linear, Aztec and bold monochromatic stripes, sophisticated geometric prints are making an appearance from catwalk couture to ready-to-wear wonders. Funky and fresh, this pattern pop is just what we’ve been waiting for.
“They are fun to play with because you can choose to match or clash prints,” says Indian fashion designer, Anita Dongre. Geometric prints in bold hues or classic monochromes make for an edgy alternative to the ubiquitous pastel and floral outfits this summer. These computer calculated patterns seem to add a slightly masculine touch even to the ultra-feminine, figure-hugging mini and our beloved sari, making it easy for anyone to carry it off. “At the moment, they are ruling over the florals,” says Bengaluru designer, Shloka Sudakar whose patterns were a runaway favourite at BFW’s Spring Summer. “Digital abstract prints with contrasting neons and brights are fast-selling on blouses and pleats too!” she says.
When Bengaluru lass, Deepika Padukone steps out in a dapper pattern number, we know she’s doing it right. Here’s a dekko into how to get this bold look. According to Anita, these playfully patterned numbers work best on simple silhouettes. “Try some fitted dresses, tunics, tapered trousers and pencil skirts. But remember to go easy on the accessories as prints are a statement in itself,” she suggests. So, pull out those classic black or nude pumps and pick a solid-coloured clutch to make your outfit pop.
With these prints trending, the city is picking up pace and stocking up on them, quite boldly. “It works well on not just clothes, but a number of miscellany like cushion covers and mugs too,” says Bengaluru model, Vedika Toshniwal. “A well-fitted, summer jacket by Jason Anshu is a classic and my favourite,” she says. The stores in the city are packing this hot trend by merging geometric and kinetic prints to create an optical illusion. “We’ve stocked up on a combination of grids and contrasts on summery palazzos, maxi dresses and tank tops,” says Pavan Kumar, COO of Splash Fashions India. “Aztecs and geometrical prints are fresh in appeal and high on attitude and simply a must-have!” says, Anand Jadav, co-founder of Yepme.
