I am not looking at TV now, want to focus on films: VJ Siddharth Bhardwaj

“In Kuku Mathur…, I play a typical Delhi guy named Himanshu, who, in his own eyes, is a stud who rules the whole world and doesn’t care about anything. But reality is, of course, different. This guy doesn’t like poor people and is kind of a bully. And in the film, he’s the one bullying Kuku Mathur. Having been born and brought up here, I have seen a lot of Himanshus in my life. So in that sense, I could relate to the character,” shares Siddharth.

Asked if he himself was a bully in school or college, he adds, “While I wasn’t a bully in the true sense, I have always believed in bullying the bullies. You can say I was bullies ka baap.”

Apart from Kuku Mathur…, Siddharth is playing the lead in Life Non-Veg where he plays a North Indian guy who is trying to make it in Bollywood. “It’s a comedy that will hold you to your seats right till the end. Mine is a happy character who enjoys himself to the fullest till he meets a girl who becomes the conflict point. It’s not a mindless sex comedy like Grand Masti, but a pure film with comedy arising from funny situations and dialogues,” says Siddharth.

While Siddharth is doing back-to-back comedy films, he is not scared of being typecast as a comic actor. He says, “I don’t feel life has a written rule that everyone should follow. Even if I get ten comedy films after this with good scripts, I will go ahead with them without a second thought. And if I get a silent film with a nice story and a great message, I will do that too. I feel that today people understand good cinema and if they like your work, they will approach you with good stories.”

Though Siddharth has yet to prove his mettle in films, he has been quite successful in reality shows.

Asked if it helped him carve his way to B-town, he says, “I think the only reason I was able to make my way from reality shows to films is because I have always been real. It just turned out to be a blessing that people liked the real side of me. And even now I am keeping it real in front of the camera and steering clear of any kind of melodrama. That’s what people like about me, I guess and that’s what I will give them.”

Asked if he plans to do any more TV shows, Siddharth clarifies, “I am not looking at TV now. I am focusing on films and enjoying that and don’t want to shift my focus. If something really good comes along, maybe then I might consider it but it has to be as big as the shows I have done, if not bigger. I don’t want to settle for anything lesser than that.”

Siddharth wants to work with Prakash Jha and Vishal Bhardwaj and his dream role is that of langda Tyagi from the hugely popular film, Omkara by the latter. “Saif did that role to perfection and there’s no way he could be replaced, but if ever a sequel is being made and Saif is not available for the role, I’d love to be langda Tyagi. It’s my dream role,”concludes Siddharth.
