Will give issue-based support to Modi and expect cooperation: YSRC’s Jaganmohan Reddy in Delhi

YSRC chief held discussions on financial assistance for Andhra Pradesh by the new government

New Delhi: YNew Delhi: YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy said his party will give issue-based support to the NDA government at the Centre.

Accompanied by senior party leaders, Reddy met Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi and said, "Andhra Pradesh requires him (Modi)."

Asked whether his party, which has won nine seats in Lok Sabha election, would join NDA, he said, "BJP does not require the support of any political party.

"The fact is that they already have 282 MPs and they don't need the support of any of us. Andhra Pradesh wants him (Modi)," Reddy said on Monday.

He said that his party would extend "issue-based" support to the NDA government.

Jagan also gave a representation to Modi on the issue of division of Andhra Pradesh.

He appealed to the Prime Minister-designate to provide funds liberally for building a new capital for Seemandhra as it has been promised in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

YSR Congress' main rival TDP is a pre-poll partner of BJP in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and is part of NDA.

Earlier, on May 16, Reddy had said that the wave in favour of Narendra Modi played a role in his party's defeat in the Seemandhra region, where the TDP-BJP combine was swept to power.

He indicated that the party was eyeing the 2019 elections. He conceded that fielding his mother who is also YSR Congress honorary president Vijayamma, from the Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha seat was a wrong move.

The results delivered for the BJP was the biggest victory margins in the country's polity since 1984. And with the Congress' tally of 43 seats (and the UPA's 58), the BJP will not even have a strong Opposition in Parliament. The BJP alone snatched 283, and the NDA juggernaut finally halted at 337.
