Most IAS officers pick Andhra Pradesh
Hyderabad: The deadline for IAS and IPS officers to submit their state preferences was May 13, but was extended to May 16 as election results were being declared on that day. A senior police official said, “Most IAS officials picked AP after Mr Chandrababu Naidu’s victory, while among cops, outsiders preferred Telangana.”
In undivided AP there were 284 IAS officers and 209 IPS officers.
The Central committee had recommended 163 posts of IAS, 112 of IPS and 65 of IFS officers for Telangana, based on the 13:10 ratio. And for residual state of AP, the committee recommended 211 posts for IAS, 144 for IPS and 82 for IFS officers.
AIS officers can make either of the three following options: First preference for residuary AP, first preference for Telangana or equal preference for both states. Officers are asked to give an undertaking that their options would not mean that that they will get what they choose.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that DGP B. Prasada Rao is likely to head the police force of Andhra Pradesh and Hyderabad police commissioner Anurag Sharma is most likely to be the DGP of Telangana.
Senior IPS officer Aruna Bahaguna, who is now director of the National Police Academy, and ACB director-general A. K. Khan are also in the race for the Telangana DGP post. Mr T.P. Das and Mr S.A. Huda are also in the running.
