Bengaluru cops unearth plot to kill Andhra MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi
Bengaluru: The Bengaluru police claimed to have unearthed a plot to kill a prominent person in the city. One of the three persons of a gang who were allegedly out to kill the “prominent person” was injured in an encounter with the Bengaluru police.
The police was on the lookout for the gang, which was notorious for committing dacoities and robbing people in the outlying areas of Bengaluru.
Bengaluru commissioner of police Raghavendra Auradkar said, “They confessed that they were planning to kill a prominent person. They are basically dreaded dacoits who are involved in 88 cases.”
Asked if MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi was the target, he replied, “We don’t know about that.”
Hyderabad commissioner of police Anurag Sharma said, “I spoke to the Bengaluru police. It’s a dacoit gang. There is no specific information on who the target was. However, we are taking all measures to step up security.”
Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh police nabbed the inter-state criminal and gangster Kunigal Giri and his associates at Hindupur in Anantapur district after a hot chase on Saturday. Police opened fire on the gang near Devanahalli when one of them tried to escape from police custody. Rowdy-sheeter Govind, an associate of Giri, was also injured.
Anantapur superintendent of police S. Senthil Kumar said, “We have helped the Karnataka police to arrest the gang of four. One of the accused, Kunigal Giri, was remanded to judicial custody. We have handed over three others to the Bengaluru police. They didn’t confess to any other plot.”
The gangsters used to rob people by threatening them with lethal weapons. A senior city police official said the dacoit gang is now evolving into being hired assassins.
The police reportedly acted on a tip-off and surrounded a building where four members of the gang were holed up on Saturday.
Giri, the gang leader, tried to escape but was caught. The next day, while being shifted in a vehicle, one of the other gang members, identified as Govind, asked to go to the toilet and planned to make his getaway.
He assaulted a policeman who was escorting him and tried to run away. Some of the other policemen who were in the escort team then opened fire with their pistols and injured Govind below the knee.
