A balancing act in Jhalak…Dikhla Jaa
Like the earlier seasons of the show, this season of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa also features celebrities from different walks. While some of the contestants like cricketer Srishant and TV actor Kritika Kamra seem effortless in the promos, others like singer Sophie Choudary, actors Purab Kohli, Aashish Sharma, singer Sukhwindr Singh and VJ Andy seem to be holding their own too.
We speak to some of the contestants about how easy or tough the competition was, given that some of them are much better dancers than the others and how they are balancing it with their other commitments:
Purab Kholi
This show puts your personality on the forefront. More than winning, participation is important for me,” says Purab. About competing with trained dancers, he says, “Whether trained or not, everyone can put in their best. So many things attribute to good dancing moves. Physically the show is exhausting but at the same time we enjoy dancing so it is fun.”
About balancing his career and JDJ, Purab says, “I do not know how I will balance the show with my other work. I will have to earn balancing I suppose.”
Mouni Roy
There are a few really good as well as trained dancers. But I need to do my level best. I am prepared to learn and unlearn what I have done in any form of dancing, be it salsa, Indian dance or hip hop.
“I am trying to put in every bit of effort from my end and see that I reach the finale. “I am not taking any more shows and am only concentrating on JDJ since rehearsals take most of our time therefore.”
Sukhwinder Singh
Talking about participating in JDJ, singer Sukhwinder Singh says, “Music and dance go hand in hand. We singers are also performers. Dancing is part of our work culture. Yes, we are not professional dancers but we understand the rhythm of dance with music. It’s in my system.” Asked why he waited for the seventh season of the show to participate, he says, “I believe that everything happens at the right time. When I was asked this time, I said yes why not?”
Akshat Singh
I have been crazy about dancing right from the age of four. I am here to entertain my audiences and my fans…,” says Akshat Singh.
The Class IV student from Kolkata adds, “I am proud of the support that I got from my teachers, especially from my principal Kishan Kejriwal Sir. I am also good at studies and always get more than 90 per cent.”
He adds, “I am also enjoying dancing because I get to eat a lot. No one has asked me to lose weight. I cannot remain on an empty stomach.”
Kiku Shradha
I am participating as Palak who has an agenda of showing Bitto Sharma that she can participate in the much talked about show too. I want to show Bitto Shrama that I am a multi-tasking woman.”
“Dancing, for my kind of a body type, is really tough. I feel totally drained both physically as well as mentally. I am not used to this kind of rigorous physical exercises. Until today I have not been injured but injuries are part of dancing shows and I am prepared.”
“Though I have opted for JDJ, I am worried about the rehearsals as I have other shows too. Comedy Nights With Kapil takes two days and JDJ also needs two days but the rehearsals need more days. Hope I can balance them all. ”
