Visakhapatnam gets local MP after a long time

Last local candidate to represent Vizag Bhattam Srirama Murthy in 1984 on a TD ticket

Visakhapatnam: After 25 years, a local of Vizag, Khambampati Hari Babu was elected to Vizag Lok Sabha defeating YSRC’s Y.S. Vijayalakshmi from Kadapa.

In 1989, Anand Gajapathi Raju’s former wife Uma, won on a Congress ticket. Industrialist T. Subbarami Reddy from Nellore, won in 1996 and 1998. In 1991 and 1999, Gitam chief M.V.V.S. Murthy of East Godavari, won. Former chief minister N. Janardhan Reddy of Nellore in 2004 and Daggubati Purandeswari of Prakasam won in 2009 from Vizag.

The last local candidate to represent the port city was Bhattam Srirama Murthy in 1984 on a TD ticket.
