Majority of rich heavyweight politicians have suffered electoral setbacks
Hyderabad: Quite a few crorepati candidates suffered setbacks in these elections. Peddapalli Lok Sabha Congress candidate, G. Vivek, who was among the 10 richest candidates in the country, lost to TRS student leader Balka Suman who made his political debut with a huge victory by securing a majority of nearly Rs 1.35 lakh. Mr Vivek had declared assets of over Rs 266 crore in his election affidavit.
However, Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, the Chevella LS candidate from TRS, who is also one of the richest candidates in the country with assets of over Rs 550 crore, won.
Nama Nageshwar Rao, the TD candidate for Khammam LS seat, who declared assets of over Rs 300 crore, also lost the elections.
BJP Medak Lok Sabha candidate, Dr Narendranath, who declared assets of over Rs 176 crore, lost to TRS chief KCR by over 4 lakh votes. Meanwhile, G. Vinod, Congress candidate for Chennur Assembly seat, who had declared assets of over Rs 185 crore, lost.
T. Chinnapa Reddy, TD candidate for Nalgonda LS with assets of over Rs 125 crore, lost the election to Congress heavyweight Gutta Sukendhar Reddy.
Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, the Congress candidate for Bhongir LS seat with assets of over Rs 118 crore was also defeated by his TRS rival. Surya Narayan Reddy, the YSRCP candidate for Malkajgiri Assembly seat, who declared assets of over Rs 109 crore, lost to the TRS too. B.B. Patil, the TRS candidate for Zaheerabad LS seat, with assets of over Rs101 crore, however, won.
