Pitani, the luckiest defector in Elections 2014

Defectors have received mixed results from the electorate this election

Hyderabad: In the pre-poll secession the state created a record in defections. Many MLAs and MPs defected from one party to other and contested the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. Some defectors won and some were defeated. The defectors got mixed results in both the elections. Majority of defectors have lost the elections.

Luckiest defectors (Seemandhra): J.C. Diwakar Reddy, Rayapati Samba Siva Rao, Thota Narasimham, who defected from Congress to the TD, and won as MPs from Anantapur, Narasaraopet and Kakinada Lok Sabha seats respectively. Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who defected into three parties, in five years, was elected from Bhimili Assembly seat, from Visakhapatnam district.

Former minister, Pitani Satyanaraya, in the last minute joined the TD and won from Achanta Assembly seat in West Godavari district. MP S.P.Y. Reddy defected from the Congress to the YSRC and won from Nandyal Lok Sabha seat.

Telangana: Kadiam Srihari and Babu Mohan defected from the TD the to TRS and won as MP (Warangal) and MLA (Andole) respectively. Bajireddy Govardhan, Jalagam Venkata Rao (Kottagudem) defected from the YSRC to the TRS and won as MLAs.

Unlucky defectors: Seemandhra: Former ministers, Galla Aruna Kumari G. Kuthuhalamma, Erasu Pratapa Reddy, T.G. Venkatesh, Shilpa Mohan Reddy also defected from the Congress to the TD. All of them were defeated. Former Union minister Daggubati Purandeshwari, who defected from the Congress to the BJP, was another notable leader who lost the election in the Rajampet Lok Sabha election.

Telangana: The most unlucky defectors were MP G. Vivek and his brother G. Vinod. Vivek was elected from the Congress in 2009 general elections from Peddapalli Lok Sabha seat, in Karimnagar district. In Telangana he protested against the High Command’s attitude and joined the TRS. After the Congress took a decision on creation of separate Telangana state he returned to the Congress, along with his brother. Vivek from Peddapalli Lok Sabha seat and Vinod from Chennur Assembly seat contested from the Congress and were defeated.
