Congress leaders set to quit offices if party loses badly
New Delhi: AICC officials, members of the Congress Working Committee and the Central Election Committee could put in their papers to enable party president Sonia Gandhi to constitute her team in the organisation against the backdrop of reports that the Congress’ numbers would drastically come down.
Besides, a demand for change of guard in some states may be raised in the coming days if the Congress performs dismally. Many in the party privately concede that the organisation remained defunct in the last 10 years despite Mrs Gandhi and Mr Rahul Gandhi at the helm as they focused more on the government than rebuilding the party in a number of key states.
Another section blames party ministers for failing to connect to the people. These ministers will now try to occupy positions in the party, they said. “The CWC has hardly discussed important issues seriously. Its meetings were called either to pass resolutions or endorse decisions taken by the managers to please the leadership,” they feel.
