‘Professional’ Eamcet writers held

300 candidates are regularly appearing for Eamcet under medical stream

Visakhapatnam: Eamcet convener professor N.V. Ramana Rao said a complaint has been lodged with the police regarding 300 candidates who have been regularly appearing for Eamcet under medical stream though they had been studying medicine in various institutions. The police will check their antecedents.

He said the Eamcet officials had provided the list to the director-general of police for necessary investigation and further action through the intelligence wings.
Interacting with media here on Thursday, he said the decision was taken to prevent high-tech malpractices.

He said out of a total of 3,95,600 candidates, 2,82,800 for engineering stream and 1,12,800 for agriculture & medicine streams are appearing this year for the entrance examination.

Over 750 centres have been allotted for conducting the exam. This year, for the engineering stream, there are 8,000 applications less while there are 7,000 more applications for the agriculture and medicine stream compared to last year, Mr Rao explained. The test will be conducted on May 22 for engineering stream from 10 am to 1 pm and for agriculture and medicine stream from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm.

Prof. K. Venkatasubbaiah, regional coordinator, Visakhapatnam, said Visakhapatnam region has 36 centres for engineering and 13 for agriculture and medicine. A total of 25,355 candidates are appearing from the region. He said they won’t allow late candidates and students can occupy their seats an hour earlier.

He said they had identified 20-25 problematic centres across the state where CCTVs need to be installed to prevent irregularities during exam. Prof. P. Srinivasa Rao, regional coordinator, Hyderabad and the chief superintendents of various examination centres and observers participated in the meet.
