23 arrested for rioting
Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police booked 10 cases regarding the communal riots at Kishan Bagh and is likely to book more cases soon. The cops also extended the curfew at Rajendranagar till 10 am on Saturday. However, there was mild tension in Kishan Bagh late on Thursday night as well, when some people resorted to stone pelting. A group resorted to stone pelting from a place of worship near Bahadurpura. Police said the situation was brought under control immediately.
Meanwhile, the Rajendranagar police arrested 23 persons for rioting based on footage recorded by media covering the incident. According to Kushalkar, inspector, Rajendranagar police, the accused were arrested on Thursday night. Cyberabad police commissioner C.V. Anand confirmed the report. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the matter.
Compensation of Rs 6 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased, as announced by the Governor, was handed over, though the ex gratia to the injured is yet to be given. About 600 police personnel from the BSF, CRPF and about 10 platoons of the APSP are deployed in the riot area. Though cops claim the area is now peaceful, they have extended the curfew in view of the election results on Friday.
“Ten cases have been booked and an enquiry is on. Though the situation is under control, we have extended the curfew for a couple of days. Our officials are are monitoring the situation. They are trying to restore peace. Officials are also collecting information from locals about the suspects,” said Cyberabad JCP Y. Gangadhar.
“We registered cases under Sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapons) and 307 (attempt to murder) and are investigating. During the stone pelting, police personnel were also injured,” said Rajendranagar inspector Kushalkar. Meanwhile, shops in the area remained shut on Thursday. DGP B. Prasada Rao, the Intelligence chief and other senior officials visited the area.
Governor Narasimhan ordered a magisterial inquiry into the firing at Kishan Bagh. Mr Narasimhan said the injured will be provided the best possible treatment free at corporate hospitals. Compensation would also be provided for loss of property as per norms.
