Markets Live: Sensex breaches 25,000
Mumbai: The Sensex reflected the excitement of an unravelling Modi-led BJP victory as counting preceded at a feverish pace. It opened over 1000 points up on Friday but in a few minutes traded around the 850-900 levels on the back of infrastructure, oil, banking and housing finance stocks that soared between 7 to 9 per cent.
Update: With most of the seats counted, the sensex seems to have peaked at 25,246 and is now trading around 24,900. It is a little over an hour of the opening of the markets on this historic counting day and India's markets are bubbling over on the back of a spectacular win for the Modi-led BJP/NDA while the Asian markets are deep in the red. The Asian markets have taken their cue from the American markets that were down on Thursday following fears of a slowdown in the US.
