Voters force Congress, TRS to seek alliances
Hyderabad: The Congress and the TRS in Telangana, after failing to bag an absolute majority in some municipalities and zilla parishads, are in a quandary now over possible tie-ups.
Lack of clear majority in some municipalities and zilla parishads has also made the two parties sceptical of Assembly results, for in an eventuality of neither getting absolute majority, forming a government would prove to be a daunting task.
But TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah and TRS politburo member Etela Rajender don’t foresee such a situation and claim their respective parties wo-uld win absolute majority and form the government.“We will get absolute majority in Assembly polls and form the government,” Mr Lakshmaih said.
TRS politburo member T. Harish Rao said, “We are sure of getting 75 Assembly seats. The-re is no doubt about it. We will form the government.”
Floor crossing and camp politics to save winners from rival poachers have already begun in Ranga Reddy and other places.
In Karimnagar corporation, for instance, two independent councillors — Sathyanarayana and Majid Hussain — joined the TRS in the presence of TRS leader Gangula Kamalakar.
“They have joined the party since it fought for Telangana and achie-ved it,” Mr Kamalakar said.
Out of the nine zilla parishads in Telang-ana, the TRS secured absolute majority in Adilabad, Karimnagar and Nizamabad ZPs, while Congress won Nalgonda and TD bagged Khammam.
Congress and TRS failed to get absolute majority in Warangal, Ranga Reddy, Mahabubnagar and Medak Zilla Parishads, leaving both parties to go all out to capture the ZPs.
In Mahbubnagar Zilla Parishad, out of the 64 ZPTCs, the Congress won 28, the TRS 24, the TD 9 and the BJP 2.
One Kollapur ZPTC elections could not be held due to pending court stay.
In Ranga Reddy district, out of the 33 seats, the Congress won 15, the TRS 12 and the TD 6. In Warangal, the TRS bastion, out of the 50 ZPTC seats, the Congress won 24 seats, TRS 18, TD 6 and 2 others. In Medak district, out of 46 seats, the Congress won 21, the TRS 21 and the TD 4.
“We are confident of these ZPs coming to TRS,” asserted Mr Rajender, but refuses to discuss how. Besides the votes of sitting MLAs and MPs, who will be members of the ZPs and municipalities, the parties are also on the lookout to woo winners from other camps.
Parties, which form the government, will have added advantage of luring winners of other camps to win ZPs.
