Hyderabad: Telangana PCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah said on Wednesday that his party will set up a panel headed by a retired judge of the Supreme Court to examine the various laws that will govern both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states.
Speaking to newsmen at Gandhi Bhavan here on Wednesday, he said there are about 3,000 laws and legislations that will govern both the states from June 2, the Appointed Day for the new state of Telangana to come into existence.
“Though the laws and acts are one and the same for both the states even after bifurcation, the panel will look into all the existing laws and suggest modifications, if any, that will better suit Telangana,” Mr Lakshmaiah said.
Based on the panel’s report, the government of Telangana may bring in amendments to certain laws, he added.
Mr Lakshmaiah is confident that given the outcome of the local body polls where the Congress has got the upper hand both in municipalities and rural local bodies in the Telangana region, the Congress will come to power in Telangana.
“We are going to bag five Zilla Parishads and a majority of MPPs in the region, if necessary by taking the help of allies such as the Majlis, the CPI and Independents,” he said.
“It is not true that the Congress is lagging behind the TRS in local body polls. We are number one in the region, seats and votes wise. I am confident the same results will be reflected in the Lok Sabha and Assembly results,” he added.
