Elections 2014: BJP on hunt for government, big roles for Advani, Sushma

The duo are not members of core group working with Narendra Modi

New Delhi: The BJP top brass on Wednesday had several meetings to discuss two things -- the possibility of the party forming a government at the Centre and roles for veterans L K Advani and Sushma Swaraj.

The duo are not members of the core group working with the party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

It is well-known that both leaders have been on Modi's path. Advani was displeased that he was made the party's prime ministerial candidate and Sushma had publicly taken on the leadership for inducting corrupt politicians ahead of the polls.

BJP leaders have also discussed the possibility of seeking support of parties like the BJD, AIADMK and the NCP, should the party fall short of a majority. The party has already made it clear it is not averse to receiving support even from a single MP.

Party chief Rajnath Singh met Sushma Swara at her residence before she flew to Bhopal. He later told the media the party was certain of a majority.

Former BJP chief Nitin Gadkari also met her on Wednesday. It is learnt Gadkari is the negotiator between groups within the party. He had on Tuesday met BJP patriarch L K Advani amid speculation about his role in the next government.

Senior party leaders Arun Jaitley and Amit Shah also held a meeting to discuss the post-results scenario.

Meanwhile, two crucial BJP meetings were reportedly held in Gandhinagar on Tuesday, to initiate a search for Modi's successor.

Rumour mills are also going overboard trying to figure out whether Nitin Gadkari will replace Rajnath Singh as party chief.

It is learnt the RSS has also advised the BJP not to weaken the party in case it forms the government.
