PG Entrance aspirants upset over seat matrix
Bengaluru: Hundreds of PGET aspirants are upset. These medical and dental post graduate seat aspirants who are a part of the ongoing Post Graduate Entrance Test (PGET) first round seat selection process are disturbed at the way in which the seat matrix has been announced.
According to the students, even though the state High Court has permitted the state government to include the 25% seats from the Deemed (to be) Universities in the PGET seat matrix through its interim order, not even a single Medical or Dental PG seat is included.
But the Medical education department has denied the allegations and stated that seats will be added at the time of the second round and that it will in no way harm the interest of the students.
According to the students, the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has started the first round of Medical and Dental PGET seat allotment process.
As per the KEA circular, option entry started on Tuesday evening 5 pm and it will close on 5 pm on May 16. But none of the seats from any deemed universities (which have given an undertaking to the state government that they will surrender 25% of their seats to the government quota) were added in the seat matrix, creating confusion among the students.
Speaking to this newspaper, a student alleged that the state government has completely surrendered to the private college lobby. "HC has given permission to the state government to include the seats from deemed universities in the seat matrix through its interim order. We are helpless” he said.
Speaking to this newspaper, an officer informed that the department has surrendered to the medical college lobby. "It was an undertaking given by the deemed universities and the onus is on them to follow it. The government should defend the case strongly in the HC. Instead of following the interim order it is waiting for the final judgement. Generally the government follows the interim order in this type of case," he revealed.
