Kochi: Hundreds of people participated in a ‘still rally’ organised from Town Hall to High Court junction in the city on Tuesday by the Anti-Liquor Coordination Council demanding not to reopen the 418 ‘sub-standard’ liquor bars.
Major Archbishop of Syro Malabar Church, Mar George Cardinal Alencherry, was among the dignitaries who came out to support the rally. Mar Alencherry walked from Town Hall to High Court junction with a placard to express his solidarity to the cause of the anti-liquor activists. Among the participants, who lined up on one side of the road for the rally, were large number of women, children and nuns.
Inaugurating a meeting marking the conclusion of the rally at Town Hall, Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer said all those who are interested in the welfare of the society should join hands for the fight against liquor. The government should stop selling liquor, he demanded.
