Bengaluru: Close on the heels of its best in a decade II PUC results, the state has recorded its highest ever SSLC pass percentage of 81.19, up by nearly four per cent over last year. Freshers too have done better this year with 85.37 per cent, three per cent more than last year, clearing the exam.
Announcing the results on Monday, primary and secondary education minister, Kimmane Rathnakar said girls had done better than boys as in previous years, with 85.46 per cent passing as against 77 per cent boys.
Chikkodi tops the districts with the highest pass percentage followed by Sirsi and Belgaum. While Bidar once again has the lowest pass percentage, Bengaluru North and South districts have secured first and second place respectively in the ‘quality result’ calculated on the basis of the total pass percentage and grades secured by students. Mangalore stands third in this category.
Worryingly, 17 schools, including four in the city, have got a zero pass percentage. Social science saw the highest number of students, 1058, scoring 100 per cent, followed by first language. Mathematics saw the highest number of students – 308 – scoring zero. Interestingly, of the 899 candidates in the 40 to 58 age group who appeared as repeaters and private freshers, 75 passed the exam, according to the minister.
The SSLC supplementary examinations for those who have failed or want to improve their score will be held from June 16 onwards. While students can apply for re-examination through their school headmasters, those applying for photocopies of answer scripts must do so by May 22. “Students can apply for revaluation within seven days after receiving the photo copies,” said board officials.
Like the PU results, SSLC results too were declared sooner than expected. While the board had said they would be available after 12 pm, students started to get their results by 10 am. Most city colleges saw big queues of students once the results were announced as many prestigious institutions are looking for a cut off of 90 per cent among general merit category applicants this year.
