Huge demand for IAS babus after bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh
Hyderabad: The bifurcation of the state has resulted in increased demand for IAS officers in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The state administration is struggling to appoint IAS officers to head various departments in both the states as there is already a shortage of nearly 90 officers.
Political parties such as the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, Congress, Telugu Desam and the YSR Congress which are expected to form new governments in Telangana and AP after June 2 have announced plans to create more new districts in both the states, which will result in a further demand for IAS officers for appointment as district collectors.
However, the Centre has not been allotting even 10 IAS officers per year to the state for the last few years. Added to this, the irrational allotment of IAS officers to insignificant departments further compounds their woes. Their services are being wasted in some departments, where there is not much work to do.
For instance, in the education department alone, the services of IAS officers are being wasted by appointing them in insignificant wings.
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, which is just a Centre’s scheme, is being headed by an IAS officer. Similarly, two IAS officers are allotted to intermediate and college education, where there is not much work. Also two IAS officers are appointed to handle school education department at commssionerate level and Secretariat level (primary education), in addition to another IAS officer for secondary education
