Calculation of toll a concern: Karnataka
Bengaluru: Concerned by the steep hike in toll near the Kempegowda International Airport Limited, the state government has written to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to direct its toll operators to calculate the toll under the Toll Tariff Policy, 2014 and not 2008.
It has also requested the NHAI to complete the construction of service roads around the toll plaza, and the three signal-free intersections and Railway Over Bridge (ROB) in its vicinity.
Speaking to reporters, PWD minister, Dr H.C. Mahadevappa said NHAI was likely to take a decision on the issue in a couple of days. While under the 2008 policy, the toll tariff is calculated on the basis of the investment made by the contractor in building the road, under the 2014 policy, it is calculated based on the length of the road.
“There is a chart to calculate the length of both elevated roads and bridges which works out to 92 paise per km,” the minister explained.
If the new system is implemented, the one way toll at Devanahalli could come down to Rs 57 from the present Rs 75 and the two way toll to Rs 95 from the existing Rs 115, according to him.
Dr Mahadevappa, who had called for a meeting with Union surface transport minister, Oscar Fernandes and department officials on the issue had to be satisfied with a phonecall from Mr Fernandes Sunday night. On Monday, he held a meeting with NHAI regional head, Mathur and PWD officials to find a solution, but made little progress.
