According to sources, Rajnath Singh met RSS leaders to discuss post poll strategies
New Delhi: In heartland Uttar Pradesh, polling will be held in 18 seats, of which the SP has six seats, BSP 5, BJP five and Congress three seats from the 2009 general elections. West Bengal will vote for the 17 seats remaining, of which Trinamul Congress now has 14, and the Congress, CPI and an Independent has one each. In Bihar, six seats are up for grabs. The BJP and JD(U) have two each, while the RJD and Independent have one each from the last general elections.
The last phase saw the BJP mounting an all-out war on the EC over refusal of permission to Mr Modi to address a public meeting at a spot of his choice in Varanasi. The EC, however, rejected all charges of bias levelled by the BJP, and said its decisions in Varanasi and elsewhere were unanimous.
A day after Mr Modi’s meeting with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and its top leadership, BJP president Rajnath Singh on Sunday met senior Sangh leaders and is learnt to have discussed post-poll strategies. RSS sources said at the meetings with both Mr Modi and Mr Singh, the Sangh’s top leadership voiced confidence that a BJP-led government would be formed. At the same time, they also gave a “word of caution” to the BJP to handle the “upcoming responsibility with care”, while extending the Sangh’s full support to the party
