After polls, Governor or rains may delay civic works in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The execution of the nearly Rs 2,000-crore worth crucial civic and transport infrastructure works in the city, that have been pending due to the poll code, may get delayed again.

Though the officials were hoping to start works like the laying of water distribution lines in Hitec City, LB Nagar, Malkajgiri and take up the comprehensive road development works once the election code ends, they are not sure if the Governor’s office will issue the GOs for the projects or leave it to the new state government of Telangana to complete the formality.

And even if the Water Board and GHMC get green signals to launch the projects, works at the ground level may not be taken up immediately as the monsoon will hit the city in the first or second week of June.

It may be mentioned that the Centre had sanctioned Rs 1,050 crore to the Water Board in the last week of February under the transition phase of JNNURM to take up crucial water supply and distribution infrastructure works in Hitec City, Serilingampally, LB Nagar, RC Puram and Patancheru.

However, before the government could issue administrative sanction, i.e. government orders (GOs), formally allowing the Water Board to execute the projects, elections to municipal bodies were announced and the poll code came into force from March 5. Thereafter, the poll code for general and Assembly polls came into force.

Water Board engineer-in-chief M. Satyanarayana, said they would be able to at least complete the process of inviting tenders, finalising the agency and be ready to execute the works at the ground level, even if the monsoon becomes a hindrance.
