A different ball game for Kohli
Bengaluru: He is a brash go-getter, a player who wears his aggression and emotions quite comfortably on his sleeve. At 25, Virat Kohli is one of the most talented cricketers of the current era. Driven and committed, the going in the IPL this season has been tough, but the confidence is far from low.
A day after a morale-sapping loss to Kings XI Punjab on home turf, Kohli was in no mood to sulk. The talented entertainer on the cricket field whipped up fan frenzy, displaying his football skills at a promotional event here on Saturday.
While cricket may well be Kohli’s first love, the Delhi-born batsman has a soft spot for football. In the past he had also formed a club named All Heart Football Club to raise money for charity.
An avid supporter of Germany and Real Madrid, Kohli had one of his biggest wishes granted when he played with former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba in the capital two years back at a promotional event.
“We were all star struck to see Drogba and actually play with him,” recalled Kohli at an event to select flag bearers for the Fifa World Cup.
Kohli revealed the love for the game within the Indian camp. “Everyone follows football pretty keenly. We like to watch matches and there is a lot of banter, so there is a lot of interest,” revealed the U-19 World Cup winning captain.
With the football season coming to a close, for Kohli the excitement is at fever pitch as Real Madrid look to claim their 10th Champions League title when they face neighbours Atletico in the title round.
“It will be a great to watch the Madrid derby in the Champions League final and I expect a lot of aggressive football and incidents and I cant wait for that,” he gushed.
