Telangana leaders smell a rat as state staff go ‘missing’

The total number of government employees missing were more by 50,000

Hyderabad: Over 50,000 employees are missing from government records during a verification carried out ahead of bifurcation on June 2.

The government has been collecting data of employees from each and every department before dividing them between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states.

It asked all the heads of departments (HoDs) to furnish data about employees in their departments. The total number of government employees should be 10.41 lakh according to government records, but the data sent by the HoDs puts the staff strength at 9.89 lakh.

HoDs asked to check staff data

Officials are mystified about the whereabouts of 52,000 employees.

Moreover, it was found that in 51 departments there are more employees than the sanctioned posts, while in 107 departments there are fewer employees than sanctioned posts.

Unless it’s clear how many government employees there are at present, it will not be possible for the government to divide the employees between the two states in proportion to their population.
Chief secretary P.K. Mohanty has directed all HoDs to check the data again and correct any anomalies.

He will personally verify the data of every department by holding meetings with HoDs for three days from May 13 to 15. The HoDs have to certify that the data submitted by them is correct and they will take responsibility for any anomalies that may be found later.

Telangana employees’ associations allege that some HoDs are deliberately hiding the details of Seemandhra employees to ensure that they continue to work in Hyderabad even after bifurcation.
The associations alerted T-employees to secure data of Seemandhra employees in their offices on their own and submit the data to the chief secretary immediately.
