Intelligence goes after hawala transactions
Huge sums of black money entered into the market during polls
New Delhi: Central intelligence agencies are scrutinising at least 5,000 transactions, both through banking and non-banking channels like hawala, since it is suspected that a large amount of black money came into the country in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.
Intelligence sources said most of the money trail is from countries in Southeast Asia and Gulf and that they will seek help from some of the banks in the days to come. Intelligence agencies are also probing whether some of this money could be used for terror activities.
