Microsoft to end support of Windows Phone 7.8 from September

Windows Phones with OS v7.8 and below will see end of support from September 9, 2014

Mumbai: According to Microsoft, Windows Phone 7.8, which released early 2013, will see an end of support from September 9, 2014.

With the newly released Windows 8.1 developer preview, the official release in June will mark a whole new operating system from Microsoft. The older operating system, v7.8, will see an end of support from September and the phones affected will be Nokia Lumia 900, Nokia Lumia 800, Nokia Lumia 710, Nokia Lumia 610, and Nokia Lumia 510.

As reported by Softpedia, phones that are on the older OS will continue functioning and the operation won’t be affected. However, unlike Android phones which get upgrades and updates from third-party developers, those who want to receive updates from Microsoft would have to shell-in their older handsets with new ones.

Windows 8.1 will receive a 36-month update period, i.e. till July 7 2017. So if you haven’t updated your phone’s operating system as yet, make sure you don’t lose out on the final updates from Microsoft.
