Prarthana Thombare storms into semifinals
Hyderabad: Prarthana Thombare proved too good for Amrita Mukherjee as emerged a 6-0, 6-2 victor in the quarterfinal of the Pooja Ventures ITF women’s $10,000 tournament at the Sania Mirza Tennis Academy in Hyderabad.
Amrita, who made a good comeback in her last game, could not match the prowess of Prarthana. In the other match, Natasha Palha beat Eetee Maheta 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 in a hard fought battle.
In the other two quarterfinals Rishika Sunkara brushed past Bhuvana Kalva 6-3, 6-1 while Nidhi Chilumula defeated Shweta Rana by 7-5, 6-0.
Earlier in the second round, Rishika Sunkara sent Reshma Ganapathy packing 6-0, 6-1. It was a convincing victory for Rishika as Reshma was never in the game. On the other side, Eetee Maheta also had an easy outing against Rishika Ravindran, beating her 6-0, 6-2. Nidhi Chilumula scored a thumping win over D. Tatachar Venugopal 6-0, 6-0.
In another match, Prarthana Thombare had to toil hard to beat Damini Sharma 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-0. Barring the third set, Damini proved a tough nut. In the last set Prarthana did not give any chance to Damini as she overpowered her.
On another court, Amrita Mukherjee made a fantastic comeback against Sharmada Baluu to beat her 0-6, 6-4, 6-2. After surrendering the first set, Amrita displayed some fantastic tennis and eventually emerged the winner.
Then Natasha Palha was too good for Sharon Sanchana Paul, beating her 6-1, 6-4. It was an one-sided affair as Natasha never looked in trouble. Sanchana tried her best in the second set but in vain.
