In an interview to a private news channel, a confident Mr Modi predicted that the new government at the Centre would be more stable than what the country saw in 1984 under Rajiv Gandhi, and added that he would seek cooperation from every political party as “running a government is different from running a country”.

Without indulging in speculation about numbers and post-poll alliances with former allies, including the AIADMK, Trinamul and the BSP, Mr Modi said that to run the country, he would seek cooperation from all political parties, including those with just one MP. Mr Modi denied any personal animosity with the Gandhis and said he has never indulged in vendetta politics. He said he was among the first to wish the Congress president good health and even sent her a bouquet after hearing news of her ill health.
