Mr Dhanunjaya of Narsingi police station said the couple was walking on the left side of the road and the cab, was moving in the same direction. After they were hit, both fell on the road with grave injuries and died instantly.
The driver of the cab, Mohammed Ghouse, fled from the spot. The vehicle has been seized and a manhunt is on for the driver.
A case for negligence causing death has been registered. The police said the accident was caused by the rash and negligent driving of Ghouse. “He was driving rashly and was also tired as he was on night shift the previous day. The vehicle too was not properly maintained,” said Mr Dhanunjaya.
