Elections over, Congress targets ‘black sheep’

In Shimoga, attempts on to blame Kumar Bangarappa if party fares badly in LS poll

Shimoga: Will former minister Kumar Bangarappa face disciplinary action for keeping aloof and not drumming up support for Congress candidate Manjunath Bhandary in last month's polls to Lok Sabha?

It is an open secret that Mr Kumar Bangarappa, who was aspiring for a Congress ticket himself from Shimoga, did not fully support Mr. Manjunath Bhandary. Now, a report card on those who worked against the Congress party candidate in the constituency has been submittedto the Shimoga District Congress Committee president, R. Prasanna Kumar.

The Congress had set up the committee headed by former MLC Prafulla Madhukar, to investigate the anti-party activities, if any, of its workers and leaders during the the election.

Speaking to the reporters here on Wednesday Ms.Madhukar said the report had been submitted to the DCC chief on May 6 for further action.

"We spoke to taluk party leaders and booth level workers and also referred to newspaper reports before preparing the report. It is not tailored to please the top brass of the party, but is the result of a serious exercise keeping party discipline in mind," she said.

Mr Prasanna Kumar observed that discipline was very important in a party and no one was bigger than it. "Action will be taken against those who violated party norms and crossed all limits during the elections based on the recommendations of the committee," he added.

Mr Bhandary, for his part, said that those who had backstabbed the party during the Lok Sabha elections could stay away it.
