1 dead in low-intensity bomb blast in Goa; cops rule out terror

Police sources said the blast took place at a house in Chandor village

Panaji: One person was killed and three others were seriously injured in a low-intensity blast in a hut at Chandor village near Margao town, 40 km from here on Thursday though police have ruled out any terror angle.

The incident happened when the bomb was being prepared allegedly for poaching of wild boar, a senior police officer told PTI, adding that police has recovered around 30 bombs from the hut.

The bombs were apparently to be used for poaching of wild boar, they said.

"One person identified as Paplu (full name not known) was killed while his wife and two children were seriously injured," Deputy Inspector General of Police O P Mishra said.

The blast occurred in the afternoon in the hut, which was rented out to the couple, he said.

"The tenant verification form was not filled in by the land lady due to which it is becoming difficult to know about the details of the deceased person," Mishra said.

The land lady told police that the deceased had assured her to give his details within a month and had claimed that he was working for a mining firm.

Gelatin powder was used in making the bombs, sources said. Mishra has ruled out any terror angle.

Meanwhile, the bombs found in the hut were being disposed of by a squad.
