Ishrat Jahan fake encounter: CBI gives Amit Shah clean cheat
New Delhi: In a major relief for Gujarat’s former MoS for home Amit Shah, a close aide of Narendra Modi, the CBI on Wednesday gave him a clean chit in the alleged 2004 fake encounter of Ishrat Jahan and three others.
“There is no sufficient evidence against Amit Shah. The CBI has, hence, not chargesheeted him,” inspector Vishwas Kumar Meena said in an affidavit filed before a CBI special court in Ahmedabad. He added in the affidavit, “It is most respectfully submitted that Shah was not named in the FIR. The CBI has also not named him in the chargesheet as an accused.”
The Congress sought to downplay the matter, and said that it only showed that the CBI had “functional freedom”.
Congress spokesman Shashi Tharoor, “If the CBI has decided not to include Shah’s name in the chargesheet, it is its professional decision.”
