Lalit Modi plans Rajasthan Premier League
Mumbai: In 2008, Lalit Modi was instrumental in launching the Indian Premier League (IPL), the BCCI’s most successful domestic tournament.
The 52-year-old new president of the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) (though suspended by the BCCI) is now planning to start the Rajasthan Premier League. This was revealed by Sumendra Tiwary, the new honorary secretary of the RCA.
Speaking from Jaipur, he said, “Lalit Modi announced this in the first committee meeting to-day. He chaired the executive committee meeting (it commenced at 3 pm (India time) and lasted about two hours) over the video conference from London.’
“We are challenging the BCCI’s decision in Jaipur High Court. They can’t suspend our association, the results of which have been declared by the court. Our lawyer (Sudeep Hora) will prepare the papers soon and submit them before the High Court here,” he added.
Elaborating Lalit Modi’s plan for the RCA, Sumendra Tiwary said, “we are planning to have eight academes with world class facilities in this state. Our first academy in Jaipur was highly appreciated by former Australian batsman Greg Chappell. The players at all levels will benefit from them.”
“Lalit Modi has plan to build two stadia, in Jaipur and Udaipur. The Sawai Mansingh Stadium (SMS) in Jaipur is owned by the State government. We want to have our own Stadium,” he added.
Lalit Modi is believed to reveal more plans after the results of the general elections. “Yes, he plans to come to India. But till he is back, he will run the RCA from London.”
