CBI set to probe 10 officers in corruption cases
CBI is awaiting sanction to initiate inquiries against 10 government officials
New Delhi: Armed with the Supreme Court ruling that no prior sanction by the competent authority is required to initiate inquiries against erring government officials (joint secretary and above), the CBI is set to begin probe against 10 officers in their alleged role in corruption cases.
Welcoming the SC judgment, CBI director Ranjit Sinha said, “It is a landmark judgment. This matter was pending before the SC and finally a decision came today. This decision will go a long way in finalising several cases pending before us.” He said that more responsibilities have been put on the CBI following the judgment to ensure no innocent is subjected to this provision.
At present, the CBI is awaiting sanction to initiate inquiries against 10 government officials and has sent several reminders to the Centre in the past few months on this issue.
The CVC is also waiting prosecution sanction against 55 IAS and IPS officers for sometime now even though a panel headed by Pranab Mukherjee had earlier recommended that permission should be given within three months.
The CVC plans to take up the issue with the Centre now as it says on an average permission is delayed by six to eight months to initiate disciplinary proceedings also.
