Chandrababu Naidu wants YSRC aspirants disqualified

Naidu cited 10 cases involving YSRC in the large-scale seizure of liquor bottles

Hyderabad: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday petitioned to the Chief Electoral Officer, Andhra Pradesh, to disqualify YSR Congress candidates indulging in distribution of cash and liquor to woo voters.

Mr Naidu cited 10 cases involving YSRC in the large-scale seizure of liquor bottles in Nellore, Chittoor and Kadapa districts, besides other areas in Seemandhra.

Quoting a Supreme Court order stating that the EC had powers to disqualify candidates if they failed to furnish correct expenditure, Mr Naidu said that the supply of harmful illicit liquor and distribution of money were much more serious offences, which could impact the society and deserved severe punishment.

“These acts are not only against the instructions of the EC, but are also highly criminal in nature and injurious to public health. Such acts by a political party or its leaders are to be treated as anti-social and the candidates who are responsible should be disqualified,” Mr Naidu stated in his petition to the CEO.
